World’s top pickleball player Ben Johns shockingly lost to 16-year-old prodigy, “venting anger” on expensive racket

Ben Johns was eliminated early at the world pickleball championship.

On March 7, the men’s singles event of the Veolia Open World Pickleball Championship took place. Here, the world’s top 1 (according to DUPR) Ben Johns was expected to advance due to falling into a not-so-difficult bracket.

However, the shock happened in the quarterfinals. Although he only had to meet the 40th seed John Goins, Ben Johns unexpectedly lost 1-2 with the scores of the sets being 11-8, 1-11, 7-11. More notably, John Goins is only 16 years old and does not have much competition experience.

Having to accept the unexpected defeat, Ben Johns could not hide his anger. When stepping out of the technical area, this tennis player “vented his anger” by throwing the Joola Pro Perseus 4 racket down into the bag. It is known that the racket belongs to the line designed specifically for Ben Johns.

As for John Goins, the 16-year-old prodigy had to stop before Jaume Martinez Vich in the semi-finals. Besides Jaume Vich, the remaining name in the final is Christian Alshon. The match will take place on the morning of March 10.
