Nadal makes surprising comments about Alcaraz and Sinner

The Spanish legend believes the younger generation is ready to take over and lead tennis into a brighter era.

After officially retiring, Rafael Nadal still follows the development of world tennis and puts his faith in the new generation. In a conversation on Andy Roddick’s podcast, the Spanish legend praised Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner, believing that they will continue to move the sport forward.

Although Nadal’s departure has left fans regretful, tennis still has bright talents to inherit. While Novak Djokovic is the only player still competing from the “legendary trio” Nadal – Djokovic – Federer, young talents like Alcaraz and Sinner are increasingly asserting themselves.

“Carlos is a great guy. He has a good family behind him, bringing positive values. Carlos’ humility reflects the way he was raised,” Nadal shared.

Besides Alcaraz, Nadal also appreciated Jannik Sinner, especially the way the Italian tennis player faced challenges. Despite his doping scandal, Sinner has maintained his form to win two consecutive Grand Slam titles at the 2024 US Open and the 2025 Australian Open.

“Jannik is also a good guy, not ostentatious, just focused on tennis. He has had a challenging year but has kept his focus and moved forward.”

Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz are considered “the future of world tennis”

Sinner is currently suspended until May 4 after reaching an agreement with the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA). Despite mixed opinions about the world No. 1 not having to appear before the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), Nadal has shown no ill will towards Sinner and still has respect for him.

The Spanish legend believes that both will be key factors in helping tennis continue to develop. “This is a new generation of great players. I believe that they will make this sport more attractive and attract fans.”

Although he retired from professional tennis in November 2024 after the Davis Cup Finals, Nadal affirmed that he is enjoying his post-retirement life. He also revealed that his health is now more stable after many years of competing with persistent pain, and that the decision to stop was completely correct.
