League of Legends fans will soon be able to watch a new international tournament in addition to MSI and the World Championship.
According to a report from Sheep Esports, Riot Games is planning to add a third international tournament to the League of Legends esports tournament system. The new tournament is expected to launch in 2025.
The source said that the new tournament will take place between the spring and winter tournaments, taking at least one team from each major region. At present, only the LEC region has a winter tournament.
With the addition of a third international tournament, it is likely that other regional tournaments will also have to add winter tournaments, in order to select representatives to participate in the new international tournament. If this becomes true, Vietnamese audiences will be able to watch 6 tournaments in a year, including 3 domestic tournaments and 3 international tournaments, not to mention the LCK and LPL.
The North American LCS is said to have begun research on developing a three-tournament system (with the addition of a winter tournament). However, Riot Games has yet to make an official announcement about the new international tournament or the change of the LCS tournament under their own management.
In fact, this information is not new to those who regularly follow Riot Games. Previously, an industry figure announced that a third international tournament along with a winter domestic tournament would be launched in 2024.
However, perhaps due to the restructuring not being in time, Riot Games decided to put out the fire with the Esports World Cup event in the middle of the year. This is an event organized by a third party, but according to the information we just received, both GEN and T1 will participate, so it is just as attractive as other international tournaments.
