The new version of Naafiri is causing controversy in the League of Legends gaming community.
According to Riot Games’ announcement, the assassin champion Naafiri will be reworked in the near future. Since her release, Naafiri has shown to be out of place compared to the rest of Summoner’s Rift. After the initial excitement and curiosity, few people intend to choose Naafiri as their main champion. Naafiri’s pick rate has dropped sharply and seems to have fallen into oblivion, something that should not happen to a new champion.
According to developer Riot August, Naafiri will be swapping her ultimate with her W. The new W will now allow Naafiri to summon her pack every 20 seconds, while also granting her a short invulnerability.
Naafiri’s new ultimate will be to dash into an enemy from a distance and deal damage – similar to Nocturne. However, repeating an important ability like her ultimate has some people wondering if Riot Games is running out of ideas. And having two champions with the same ultimate function in the jungle is a bad thing. If Nocturne is already here, why do gamers need Naafiri?
Since her release, Naafiri has had a hard time finding a place in the game’s meta. As an assassin designed for beginners, she has a simple, easy-to-learn gameplay, but that’s why she doesn’t really stand out in matches. If her skill set is still duplicated, it will be difficult for Naafiri to stand out among the more than 100 unique champions of League of Legends.
Riot also tweaked several other details in Naafiri’s kit. Her E now has a shorter cooldown, longer range, and targets the mouse cursor instead of jumping at a fixed distance. Her Q and passive deal reduced damage to champions but are buffed against jungle monsters.
On Reddit, many gamers expressed their dissatisfaction with Naafiri’s rework:
“I actually like Naafiri’s current kit better.”
“I’m usually in favor of reworks, but I don’t like this one. We lost a simple and reliable mobility ability in exchange for a new ability that increases movement speed and damage immunity with a long cooldown.”
“Naafiri’s original kit fits her theme perfectly. Hopefully they revert these changes or at least tweak them.”
