The famous male streamer made statements about T1 and Faker that caused controversy not only among fans but also among the League of Legends community in general.
At the end of last year, T1 and Faker won a series of awards at the League Awards – an event organized by two famous commentators in the LoL community, Caedrel and Sjokz.
Faker won two important awards: Play of the Year and Player of the Year, while T1 was not far behind with two awards: Moment of the Year and Team of the Year. It can be said that Faker and T1 “won” the most valuable awards at the League Awards.
However, Caedrel – one of the founders of this award, was not satisfied when T1 and Faker “swept” such big categories. In a post (later deleted) on stream, he said that T1 won 7/19 awards and their players were also nominated in 10/19 categories. They only lost the LCK Player of the Year award to Chovy.
Caedrel emphasized that it was T1’s large fan base that helped them achieve this success, and he felt that Chovy or BLG deserved it more for maintaining their consistent performance throughout the year. Of course, these statements caused a lot of controversy and got Caedrel into trouble. He eventually had to make a video apology afterwards.
Over the years, awards like Caedrel’s League Awards have always been a controversial topic. Not only Faker or T1, but even Zeka and DRX in 2022 have received mixed opinions. In particular, T1 in 2024 had a more erratic performance than in 2023. However, after winning the World Championship, they almost dominated all awards, most notably the Esports Awards.
However, it is necessary to admit a fact: For many fans, these awards are just a formality after the season ends. Therefore, whether they exist or not, they are not as controversial as the official tournaments and the team’s performance throughout the year.
