Becoming a social media star thanks to being a champion at… slapping

Kamotsky won the slapping competition at the Siberian Power Show.

TPO – Vasily Kamotsky, a farmer in a remote Siberian region in Russia, suddenly became a social media star after becoming a champion… of slapping. With his tall stature and muscular hands, he made his opponents dizzy with a few slaps, attracting global netizens.
Vasily Kamotsky did not slap his opponents much, but each of his slaps was enough to make them stagger. He was awarded the title of champion of slapping at the Siberian Power Show, an esoteric and offensive competition that is only broadcast at 3am on Youtube.

Answering over the phone, Kamotsky boasted: “I knocked out two people. I don’t think anyone has ever watched this show before.”

Slapping competitions are a relatively new curiosity in Russia. They are a pain-resistance challenge designed to complement weightlifting, and are mostly attended by men. “It’s not a sport, it’s a game,” Kamotsky said.

As a farmer, he had never heard of a slapping competition before. One day, his friends invited him to watch a strength competition in the city of Krasnoyarsk, and he was advised to try it out.

“A crowd of about 1,000 people stood watching us slapping,” Kamotsky recalled.

When his slapping competition was posted online, he became famous. Now, everyone recognizes Kamotsky on the street. Journalists from all over the world, including Spain and Japan, call to interview him. A video of him winning the slapping contest was shown on Evening Urgant, a leading comedy show in Russia, and he received a lot of letters from fans of the Spartak football club.
