Last week, Real Madrid enjoyed the joy of the first leg of the 1/8 round of the C1 Cup in a derby at home. This time in the second leg, Atletico has nothing to lose, playing with all their “heavy weapons” to dream of kicking the “annoying neighbor” out of the European playground. Among the stars of Coach Simeone, we must mention Sorloth and Griezmann.
“Assassin” Sorloth and the memories that haunt Madrid
In Simeone’s squad, Sorloth will be the name that Real’s defense needs to pay attention to. The Norwegian player, who only played 15 minutes in the first leg, scored 4 goals against Ancelotti’s team when he played for Villarreal a year ago.

Sorloth will be a useful card for coach Simeone
At the Bernabéu last week, Sorloth had just 15 minutes on the pitch, and didn’t make much of an impact. Perhaps Simeone brought him on too late, in the 75th minute, and he had little impact on the game. Atletico only had one cross into the box for him, along with two touches and two passes in the attacking zone. But at the Metropolitano, things could be different, and there are reasons to believe so.
The first is Sorloth’s individual form. In 1,504 minutes of football this season, Sorloth has scored 14 goals (and two assists), nine of which have come as a substitute. He is the top-scoring substitute in Europe’s top five leagues.
The second is that two of those goals have come against Barcelona. It was Sorloth who scored in the 96th minute of the match between Barça and Atlético at Montjuic, sealing a 2-1 draw, leaving the Barca players on the ground, while he ran to celebrate with his arms outstretched like a Norse god.
But that was not all, the same scenario was repeated in the Copa del Rey match between the two teams, when Sorloth came off the bench and scored the equalizer to make it 4-4.
The third reason is that Sorloth is a player of memorable moments. Sorloth has faced Real Madrid nine times for three different teams (Real Sociedad, Villarreal and Atlético), with an unimpressive record (only one win – 2-0 with Real Sociedad at Anoeta in 2022-23) and has not scored in most of the matches, except for one. But that was a moment for a lifetime.
May 19, 2024, Villarreal – Real Madrid match in round 37 of La Liga. The match ended with a score of 4-4, and all four goals of Villarreal were scored by Sorloth. He was a nightmare for Madrid’s defense (that day including Lucas, Militao, Rüdiger and Fran García). Not only did he score 4 goals, he also had a shot hit the post. More surprisingly, 3 of the 4 goals were scored in just 8 minutes (from minute 48 to 56), turning the score from 1-4 into 4-4 in the end.
