League of Legends Esports “transforms” in 2025, adding new international events after MSI and MSI

Riot Games has announced a new roadmap for 2025, adding a third international tournament and extending the season schedule compared to before. In addition, Riot also changed the competition format of international and regional tournaments, with many adjustments to the number of participating teams, while also making the tournament more interesting.

According to the announcement of Riot Games, the new international tournament will be held in March 2025 with the participation of 5 teams from 5 different regions. Each region will hold a separate qualifier to find a single representative to this tournament. Riot also noted that the results of this new international tournament will directly affect the seeding position of the regions at MSI held in July.

Along with the new international tournament, the League of Legends eSports roadmap for 2025 will be divided into 3 main stages. The first competition will start with a regional tournament to find a representative for the new international tournament. Then, the second competition will choose 2 representatives from each region to go to MSI, taking place around early July.

Finally, the third competition, where the regional tournaments will compete to find the champion of that season and become the representative for the region at CKTG. This helps the regional tournaments to be more cohesive and create a seamless path towards the biggest international event of the year, Worlds.

In addition to changing the tournament roadmap, Riot Games also confirmed a change in the competition format. In particular, Riot will start implementing the “Fearless Draft” version from the 2025 season for BO3 or BO5 series in both regional and international rounds. With this new format, teams will now not be able to re-select champions that have been used in the series. This will bring new champions to the professional competition stage, bringing more interesting matches and more diverse gameplay.
